APPRENTICE

It normally takes 1-1.5 years of training to become an Apprentice.

a) Must pass the Apprentice test with an 80% accuracy.

i) The oral portion of the test covers general questions about the history and theory of sword combat, AoA founding principles, and school etiquette.

ii) The technical portion of the test covers the longsword plays and drills from the 32-hour Novice curriculum. Techniques are executed at full speed and require moderate precision. Control must be demonstrated.

b) Must own a training sword and safety gear.

c) Must pass the American Heart Association test for First Aid and Adult CPR.

d) Upon completion of all requirements, the Novice is declared an Apprentice and within a few months can qualify for a certificate of free play (regulated combat) with their primary weapon of study (the longsword). Note: free play must be supervised by an Instructor.

e) Apprentices will be expected to assist in the instruction of Novices.
